Encounter with God > Video Games

Updated: Sep 30, 2024

"I love spending time in worship. God is more fun than video games."

This is one of our favorite things we’ve heard from a kid.

After a kid’s camp, a 10 year-old was telling his mom about his day while helping her wash the dishes (which she said in itself was a miracle!).

He was so touched during children's worship time each camp day, especially the soaking times - the times we invited the children to lay down and picture Jesus. He loved just spending time with Jesus.

And that’s when he said it, “I wish I could spend time in worship all the time. God is more fun than video games.”

We were so encouraged to hear this, especially from one of our older boys. Sometimes, they are “too cool” for camp, but this young man wasn’t there just for the games, friends or to pie-a-leader in the face. He was there for an encounter with God.

God had an appointment for him.

God wants to know our children more than we want them to know Him.

Jesus’s words that are recorded in three of the gospels come back to me in moments like these:

“Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Matthew 19:14 (also, Luke 18:16 & Mark 10:14).

What follows in Mark’s account is just as important: “And He gathered them in His arms and blessed them, and laid hands on them.”

He didn’t just let them come to Him, like getting a picture with a celebrity. He had a blessing for them. In fact, in other accounts, this passage goes on to say that we all have to enter into the kingdom like children. There is no age on receiving the kingdom. It’s all about Him.

We want all children to come to Jesus and receive a blessing from Him.
